MİLHES, Rehabilitation of Hydroelectric Power Plant Components with Local Facilities (2015-2021)

Studies on the Domestic Design and Production of Hydroelectric Power Plant Components (MİLHES) project, carried out with the support of TÜBİTAK Public Research Support Group (KAMAG), started in February 2015. Together with TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center (MAM), TEMSAN and GIMAS, TOBB ETU HIDRO is carrying out rehabilitation work at Antalya Kepez-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant, which belongs to the Electricity Generation Corporation (EÜAŞ). Within the scope of the project, the generator, turbine and auxiliary systems were renewed in one unit of the relevant power plant with domestic facilities. TOBB ETÜ HIDRO turbine was designed within the project. The production of the turbine, whose model tests were carried out in the experimental setup within the center, was carried out by the relevant project executive institution. The project was completed in 2019, its rehabilitation was completed with domestic facilities, the power plant was commissioned and energy production continues. The project was officially finalized in March 2021 and was responsible for model tests of the related turbine. In this context, the hydraulic and mechanical design of the new turbine components has been completed.

TOBB ETU Water Turbine Design and Tests Infrastructure Project (2011-2016)

Supported by the Ministry of Development and TOBB, Budget: 20 million TL (8 million Euros), September 2011-March 2016. Project coordinator: Prof. Dr. Selin Aradag

Within the scope of the project, the installation works of three laboratories constituting the hydro infrastructure were carried out. The center, which consists of a Computer Aided Design Office, Turbine Production Workshop and Water Turbine Test Facility, stands out as the facility with the largest installed test power in the world with 2 MW. Model turbine tests are carried out in accordance with IEC 60193 standards with two bidirectional 1 MW pumps, advanced measurement systems, calibration facilities in the facility. The center, which was established with the support of the Ministry of Development and TOBB, operates as an independent research center where the design, model production and tests of water turbines can be done from one place. It is aimed to develop bil-yap, which is insufficient especially in the design of water turbines in Turkey, within the framework of university-industry cooperation, which TOBB ETU has adopted as a mission.
